Needs sorting now

Water coming back up is a full blockage

Usually caused by

The pipe is completely blocked, often further down the line in an outside drain or soil stack.

How we’d fix it

Clear it from the nearest access point, usually the manhole, using rods or jetting.

Stop using taps, showers and toilets until it’s cleared. Every flush adds to the backlog.

How to spot a cowboy drain company

Anyone can buy rods and a van. Here’s what to check before you let someone start.

Walk away if they…

  • Won’t give a price until they’re on your drive
  • Charge a separate fee just for turning up
  • Push a big repair without showing you the camera
  • Want cash and leave no invoice

Budget Rodz always…

  • Agrees your price on the phone first
  • Shows you what the camera finds
  • Runs the water to prove it’s clear
  • Leaves you a proper invoice

Your drain, or the water company’s?

Usually yours: pipes that only serve your home and sit inside your boundary.
Usually theirs: anything shared with a neighbour or outside your boundary. Across most of the North West, that’s United Utilities.

If our camera shows the blockage is on their side, we’ll tell you, so you can report it instead of paying for it.

General guidance for England since the 2011 private sewer transfer. Some older layouts differ.

Who owns which drainPlan of two neighbouring houses. Each house’s own drain inside its boundary is usually the homeowner’s. The shared drain, the pipe outside the boundary and the public sewer under the road are usually the water company’s.Your houseNext doorRoadYour drainShared drainLateral drainPublic sewerYour boundary

Questions, answered

The things people ask before booking.

Rather talk it through?07916 172256
How much will it cost?

It depends on where the blockage is and what it takes to clear. The engineer gives you a price on the phone before anyone sets off, so there are no surprises.

How quickly can you get here?

We take emergency call-outs 24/7. When the engineer rings you, they’ll give you an arrival time based on where you are.

Can I try to clear it myself first?

For a sink, yes. Use a plunger with the overflow covered by a damp cloth, or empty the U-bend into a bowl. Avoid boiling water down a toilet, as it can crack the porcelain, and never mix drain products.

Do I need to be in?

For anything inside, yes. For outside drains and manholes, often not, as long as we can get to them. Mention it on the call.

I rent. Can I still book?

Yes. It’s worth telling your landlord too, as drain problems are usually theirs to sort and pay for.

Do you do commercial drains?

Yes. Restaurants, shops, offices and landlords. We can work out of hours so you don’t have to close.

Get your drain flowing again.
